Databases

Remote access to hundreds of full text magazines, newspapers, newswire sources, reference books, maps and historical images are available to faculty, staff and students of WWS. Access to these requires a login and/or password which may be picked up in the library.

  AP Images (News Photo Database 1840-Present)
       All images are captioned jpgs, same size, and used for educational purposes.

  Atomic Learning
       A large, on-line resource of short, easy-to-understand tutorials to software training, focusing on
       answering common questions encountered when learning and using software, such as PowerPoint,  
      Word, etc.

      Career Cruising is an interactive career resource designed for people of all ages. If you want to find the       right career, explore different career options, or plan future education and training, you've come to the       right place!

  Chicago Tribune & Illinois Newspapers
      Complete full-text content of local and regional news, including community events, schools, politics,  
      government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community       from 1996 to present. Paid advertisements are excluded.

  CQ Researcher
       The CQ Researcher explores a single “hot” issue in the news in depth each week. Topics range from        social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. There are 44  
      reports produced each year including four expanded reports.
 

  Drugs and Society
      Developed and written by experts devoted to drug research and treatment, this uniquely
      comprehensive resource examines a wide range of issues concerning addiction, treatment, and the
      societal impact of drug abuse.
 

  Earth and Physical Sciences
      This resource provides essential information about chemistry, physics, and earth and space science for
      student researchers.
 

  Electric Library
       More than 2,500 full-text magazines, newspapers, reference books, transcripts and even pictures,               maps, weblinks and audio/video files.

  Encyclopedia Britannica/English version (Spanish version)
       Full-text encyclopedia articles with links to magazines, videos and websites.

  First Search
       A collection of databases offering hundreds of full text periodicals and authorative Internet sites. On the        navagation bar, click on the "Databases" tab. For most searches, click on the checkboxes next to
       "PerAbs" and "WilsonSelectPlus." Click "Select" at either the top or bottom of the screen. Type in your        search keywords.

  Health First Wellness
       A vast amount of wellness information on many topics relative to current issues for students including        an interactive Health Risk Appraisal covering nineteen specific areas.

  How It Works
      This reference source offers students and general readers authoritative, comprehensive coverage of
      science and technology and strives to explain to the reader how things really do work.
 

  Infotrac-Student Resource Center (Gale)
       More than 680 full-text periodicals and newspapers, primary sources, creative works, and multimedia,        including hours of video and audio clips.

  Literature Resource Center (Gale) (Literary Index)
       Full-text journal articles, literary criticism, reviews, biographical information, and overviews on over
       130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods and from around the world.

  NetTrekker
       Award-winning academic search engine that provides safe, fast, and easy access to over 180,000
       educator-selected websites aligned with state standards. You must register the first time you
       sign-in. It is suggested you use your school (Novell) login and password.

  Noodle Tools MLA Style Guide
       A suite of interactive tools designed to aid students and professionals with their online research. From        selecting a search engine and finding some relevant sources, to citing those sources in MLA or APA
       style, NoodleTools makes online research easier!

  NoveList
      A fiction book database that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, and much more
      for over 125,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to fiction readers, such as Author       Read-Alikes, What We’re Reading, Book Discussion Guides, Book Talks, and Annotated Book Lists.

  ProQuest Platinum
      Comprehensive coverage of general interest magazines and specialized journals; full text newspapers       including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal; extensive body of image material; World Book       Encyclopedia.

  Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature
      50 to 150 word abstracts of articles indexed in 306 magazines dating back to 1984.
