WWSHS THEATRE SEASON 2009-2010 Novice Production: October 1-3rd , 2009 Set in medieval England, this children’s musical turns a childhood favorite on its head as our boy Jack climbs the fabled beanstalk, only to find a friendly, lovable Giant, a funky harp, and a dancing Golden Goose. Along the way, he encounters his long-lost father and a villainous Baron. A new twist on an old fable, “Jack & The Beanstalk” is sure to delight all ages! Directed by Roberta James and Dave DeMarzo. Fall Production: November 12-14th , 2009 Written by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, David Lindsay-Abaire. Fuddy Meers revolves around an amnesiac, Claire, who wakes up every morning as a blank slate, on which her family must imprint the facts of her life. On this particular day, the shenanigans begin with Claire being abducted by a limping, lisping man who claims to be her brother trying to save her from her evil husband. They drive to the home of her mother, who has had a stroke that left her aphasic (her attempt to say funny mirrors provides the play's title.) The ensuing mayhem is both deliriously funny and oddly touching. Directed by Dave DeMarzo.
Variety Show: March 18-20th, 2010 Another great opportunity for WWSHS students to show their talents. Directed by Mr. Dave DeMarzo, the Variety Show includes the infamous Fill-ins , students who entertain us with their wacky skits and satire between other student performances. Some past performances include: bands, dance, instrumental and vocal soloists, kung fu fighters, comedy scenes, and much more! Spring Production: May 13-15th, 2010 One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory, Footloose bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. Directed by John Burlace and Roberta James. |
