Course Descriptions

Chamber Singers - (I) Sequential Two semesters Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: JV Women’s/Men’s/Varsity Women’s/Concert Chorus, or by audition

Chosen by audition each spring, and by placement by director. It is an extremely selective group that builds upon past choral experience with an emphasis placed upon advanced choral technique, musicianship, sight reading, and repertoire. Music ranges from 4 to 8 parts in classical, folk, and popular genres. Private vocal study by members is expected. The group numbers from 22 to 28 singers, performs 5-6 concerts per year, participates in IMEA All-State festival and contests. A choral ensemble of exceptional caliber, this group provides an excellent 2-3 year goal for dedicated freshman musicians. Meets a Performing Arts requirement.

Show Choir -Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: JV women’s/Men/s/Varsity Women’s/concert Chorus, or by audition

Show Choir is strictly auditioned in the spring of each year with a limited maximum enrollment of 40. Participants are chosen primarily from those with previous choral experience The level of commitment is intensive with 4-5 performances per year, evening rehearsals, summer camp participation and festivals. The group serves as an environment for those students who are interested in pursuing a performing career, as well as those outstanding performers who may be headed in other directions after high school. Emphasis is on choral technique, musicianship, movement, stage presence and attitude: becoming a total performer. Members are expected to take private vocal study. Repertoire is primarily pop/show music. Students pay for shoes and partial costumes costs annually averaging $375.
